As if our taste buds need another excuse to head to the North End, Trani, a new pastry shop, has opened on Salem St. We already have gelato galore, Mike’s, and Modern … what more could a sweet tooth ask for? Ice Cream Injected Pastries anyone? This place has been 4 years in the making,” the owner tells me as he selects 2 perfect looking cupcakes. "I’ve been perfecting the recipe…just wait until you try this!…”, he tells my friends and I. The ice cream injected cupcakes or “Bust-outs” are most popular item on the menu. You can get any combination of chocolate or vanilla cake with chocolate or vanilla ice cream in the center. The order comes with 2 cupcakes for less than $3. The owner himself finishes making our order by running the cupcakes under a waterfall of steamy liquid fudge that hardens into a chocolaty shell as it cools. The final product is every bit as delicious as it sounds. The staff is extremely polite and the inside of the newly renovated shop is open and bright with plenty of room to sit. You also won’t have to deal with those pesky lines or hoards of people crowding around Mike’s…until they find out they can have their ice cream inside their cake and eat it too that is…
