Music Recommendations
Conrado Bondoc, Executive Editor
In this installment of my CD recommendations, I cover a number of different music
genres: jazz, pop, and even swing! From musical legends, international stars and even a
singer with songs made famous by a person who doesn't really exist!
NEXT TIME: I'll take a look at LPs from a pop group which is Frank
Sinatra's "kind of town", as well as one of the four major food groups. Plus ...
Sedaka is back, again!

This One's From
the Heart
James
Darren
James Darren was one of the most popular, non-regular recurring
characters during the final two seasons of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine",
playing 1960s Vegas lounge singer "Vic Fontaine", a holographic program in the
tradition of "The Rat Pack". Darren does a swingin' job on such tracks as
"Come Fly With Me," "The Way You Look Tonight," and "All the
Way." A must-have CD for any Rat Pack fan, or fans who already miss DS9. I happen to
be both!

Red Rose Speedway
(24K Gold Disc)
Paul
McCartney
Thankfully, some smart cookie decided that "Red Rose Speedway", one of the best
works (and one of the most overlooked LPs) from Paul McCartney and Wings,
should be mastered on CD from the final mixdown tapes! This release includes Wings' hit
"My Love", as well as two of their best album cuts ever, "Get on the Right
Thing" and "Little Lamb Dragonfly." The latter selection is one of
McCartney's most complex musical compositions in his entire career.

Thank You For the
Music
Abba
I make no apology whatsoever for this recommendation. Abba
was, in terms of sales, more popular than The Beatles. This four-CD box
set presents the best of the Swedish natives. And the remastered tracks bring out the best
of the vocals from Annifrid Anderson and Agnetha Faltskog,
and the songwriting and arranging mastery of Benny Anderson and Bjorn Ulvaeus.
Three of the four discs include all of Abba's most popular songs. The
fourth CD contains session outtakes and demos of some of the songs which became million
sellers.

Jarreau
Al
Jarreau
In my infallible opinion, no one in this planetary system is cooler than Mel
Tormé and the artist who shines on this LP, Al Jarreau.
"Jarreau" is one of his best works; three tracks from this LP charted on
Billboard's pop chart, like "Mornin' ", "Boogie Down", and
"Trouble in Paradise". Guest artists include some of the greatest session
musicians, including 14-time Grammy winner David Foster.
